I was recommended this book by a colleague (thanks @MrsGH2018) and I’m so glad I got the chance to read it.
This is a really eye-opening story from the perspective of a child with autism, who is going into Year 7. It follows her day-to-day life and shows the effect that a daily routine at school can have; things that most people take for granted are a challenge every day for someone with autism.
Having had a few children in my class with autism this year, sometimes it made me think, ‘I’m really glad I acted that way.’
But other times, it made me think, ‘What could I do next time?’
I would definitely recommend reading this book; you don’t just get a story so intriguing you can’t put it down, but you learn how you can apply your new understanding to a classroom.
