First, can we just look at how beautiful this book looked when it arrived ๐. I’ll definitely be wearing my Vote for Sofia badge proudly!
I LOVE a book which advocates for children speaking out for themselves – and this is definitely one of them!
When Sofia sees her dear Abuelo injured on the local landfill she has an idea to turn it into a public park: a place everyone can enjoy.
It starts off with just Sofia against Mount Trashmore. Her neighbours have ideas to help her and tell her lots of different things they want at the park. But when it comes to visiting City Hall and actually putting the plans in place, she has to do it alone.
She struggles to get anyone to listen to her or take her seriously but keeps fighting for her cause even though she’s small.
This is a fantastic book to show children that even though they are children, they matter and can make a difference.
