Malice Malign is part of a family who love creating mischief and mayhem for everyone around them. They are representatives for the Underland, who live Topside which means they are entirely responsible for causing mishaps for all who live there. Community spirit? No thanks! They’d rather be shunned by their neighbours, thank you.

Malice, on the other hand, is different from her parents and sister. She would rather lend a helping hand than have a hand in the mayhem they love to create. Along with her own beloved Grandad – who has stayed on as a ghost to live with the family – she keeps to a quieter life.

But that all changes when grandpa ghosts have started to disappear both Topside and in the Underland…including her own. Now, she’s going to have to head to the Underworld and try to save not only Grandpa, but the other ghostly disappearances! Once you start an investigation, you discover so many things. What will Malice find along the course of hers?

I loved the eerie background land of the Underworld, which was brilliantly created. The witches wish shop was hilarious – I loved the idea of sneaky witches trying to trick people…especially the results that ensued!

Each part of the story linked really well, leaving twists and turns as you make your way through the book. The plot was cleverly crafted, with the reader having some real moments of surprise as they follow the investigation with Malice and her uncle. They were an interesting duo!

This is a perfect book for children who want a strong female character, a theme of friendship and also a little touch of creepiness too!
