Clyde is a penguin, and he absolutely loves it! He lives in London Zoo where he rules the roost on Penguin Beach. He spends the day entertaining the visitors who all flock to his enclosure to see the star attraction.

But, one day, Diego, a new penguin from Spain, arrives at the zoo and with his back-flips and fancy tricks steal the attention of the visitors. Not only do the visitors all adore the new addition, but the other penguins do too! Clyde is not happy with his new position and is desperate to be top dog – well, penguin – once more.

In order to drive Diego away, Clyde makes up some mischievous plans which end up going awry leaving Diego in danger. Now he needs to save his once competitor from the perils of the park. Will he save Diego? And what else would he find along the way…

Lawrence has written a funny, engaging book that children will love. Clyde and Diego are both loveable characters (and penguins are also SUCH a popular animal in the classroom!) and their personalities are all really different; the dynamic between them all causes mishaps and missions which the reader will love going along with.

This book is ideal for children becoming more confident with longer books. They will enjoy the humour, as well as the tale of rivalry and, ultimately, friendship that develops throughout the book.
