Pablo the Rescue Cat – Charlotte Williams

Children’s books are a brilliant way to not only convey messages, but also allow children time to process new or different experiences, or to help them learn more about situations they haven’t been through. In this beautifully illustrated book, we see more about how rescuing a cat not only helps an animal, but can also be a benefit to its new owner too. There are so many animals that need adopting, but often there is not a lot of awareness around the subject.

This is not a topic I’ve seen mentioned in many books, so I am really excited to see one which shares this topic in such an accessible way for children. Here, Charlotte Williams shares with us the educational value behind Pablo the Rescue Cat.

One of the biggest motivations for publishing Pablo the Rescue Cat was to spread the message of adopting animals. There are so many animals abandoned every year, simply because people either “can’t be bothered” anymore or underestimated the responsibility of owning a living thing. I hope that Pablo’s story can teach adults and children alike that giving an unwanted animal a second chance can be incredibly fulfilling. There’s something different in adopting a rescue, they’ve all had their hearts broken and are just looking for someone to give all their love too. It’s all they need; someone to love, who will love them back. It’s important for people to know that there are alternatives to heading straight to a breeder and spending a fortune on a kitten or a puppy. Pure bred dogs especially are developing more and more health problems due to inbreeding as people want their dogs to have certain features which may not be in the best interest of the dog. Squashed noses and bulging eyes may look cute, but the breathing difficulties and eye problems that come with it are extremely dangerous for the dog. Please think about visiting your local animal shelter first when choosing for your next pet, I promise you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for.

Not only does buying the book help to educate the readers, just as Charlotte says, a proportion of the profits are also donated to UK animal shelters; another reason to buy this gorgeous book.
