Mooncat and Me – Lydia Corry

Pearl is starting a new school, as she is also moving house. It’s a lot of change in her life which is making her feel scared and anxious. When Mooncat arrives, Pearl feels some of her worries start to abate when he takes her exploring.

This is the perfect book to discuss worries and anxieties. Changing schools and moving house are common situations children will go through. By creating a picture book which focuses on these, it will allow children to explore their own emotions and know that it’s okay to experience those emotions.

Mooncat is a lovely character (I wish he had visited me when I was moving house) and I love how he helps Pearl begin to overcome her shyness and anxiety whilst still knowing that there is support there if she needs it. The illustrations show a meaningful interaction between the two characters; a real visualisation of their relationship.

I think this is a really special book to share.
